The Opportunity:  As a Business Analyst Consultant, you will play a strategic leadership role in delivering large, complex technology and business transformation initiatives that drive innovation, operational excellence, and business value. Acting as the primary liaison between Business and IT partners, you will lead business analysis efforts, process modernization initiatives, and the evolution of Business Analyst and User Acceptance Testing practices. This role offers the opportunity to influence enterprise-wide solutions, mentor and develop analysis professionals, and help shape the organization's approach to agile, iterative delivery and continuous improvement.

Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement, and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.



What you’ll do:

 

  • Serve as the sole or lead Business Analyst on large, complex IT projects, acting as the primary liaison between Business and IT partners for scope definition, requirements management, and issue resolution.
  • Lead and facilitate requirements gathering, analysis, documentation, and review sessions, developing functional and non-functional requirements, user stories, and features that align with business objectives.
  • Assess technology solutions, review IT estimates, and determine the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) required to achieve business benefits while balancing project costs, timelines, and risks.
  • Develop feasibility studies, business cases, and strategic recommendations that support business and technology strategies, process improvements, and operational effectiveness.
  • Partner closely with Systems Analysts, developers, Quality Assurance teams, and business stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle to ensure solutions align with business needs and deliver a positive user experience.
  • Coordinate and support User Acceptance Testing activities, including planning, test case development, execution, post-implementation validation, and the exploration of automated testing techniques.
  • Lead business process redesign and modernization initiatives by applying process analysis, improvement, and reengineering methodologies, while driving implementation and change management efforts across the business.
  • Develop and enhance Business Analysis and User Acceptance Testing practices, including coaching, mentoring, and training Business Analysts and User Acceptance Testers at all levels, while ensuring alignment with IT Systems Analyst and Quality Assurance practices.

 

 

What you’ll bring:

  • 10 years as a Lead Business Analyst or Systems Analyst on Large IT Projects within the financial services or insurance industry. 
  • Expert-level knowledge of Business Analysis methodologies, processes, tools, and techniques, with strong experience in requirements elicitation, solution assessment, and validation.
  • Extensive experience in process redesign, including data modeling, transaction flow analysis, internal control and risk analysis, modern business methods, and performance measurement techniques.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to define and resolve complex business and technology challenges.
  • Proven experience developing, coaching, mentoring, and training Business Analysts and User Acceptance Testers from junior through senior levels, including successful implementation of training programs.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and planning capabilities, with the ability to develop business cases, project plans, schedules, and budgets while managing competing priorities.
  • Experience working with systems development methodologies, agile development practices, product ownership concepts, and the development of non-functional requirements such as application performance, scalability, and throughput.
  • Post-secondary degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience; Business Analyst Certification or significant previous Business Analysis experience is preferred. Technical proficiency with MS Office, MS Visio, and HP ALM/Quality Center is required, while experience with Test Automation Tools is considered an asset.
