Description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the general maintenance, repair, safety, and upkeep of parish and school facilities. This position helps ensure that all buildings, grounds, equipment, and systems are maintained in a safe, clean, and functional condition to support daily operations and parish activities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Facility Maintenance

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Complete assigned maintenance tickets and work orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Track completed work and communicate updates regarding maintenance needs and repairs.
  • Respond promptly to urgent maintenance requests and facility issues.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, and mechanical systems.
  • Monitor and maintain boilers, water heaters, and other facility equipment.
  • Assist with setup and teardown for parish, school, and special events.

Groundskeeping

  • Maintain outdoor areas including mowing, trimming, landscaping, and snow/ice removal.
  • Ensure sidewalks, parking lots, and entrances remain safe and accessible.
  • Monitor exterior lighting and signage.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with safety regulations and diocesan/parish policies.
  • Identify and report safety hazards or needed repairs.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness and response procedures.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of tools, chemicals, and equipment.

Cleaning & General Support

  • Assist custodial staff as needed with cleaning and sanitation duties.
  • Support classroom, office, and ministry needs related to facilities.
  • Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous maintenance, custodial, construction, or facilities experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repair work.
  • Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment and power tools.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, unsupervised, and accomplish assigned duties efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with staff, parishioners, vendors, and supervisors.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Work Schedule

  • Occasional weekends, holidays, and on-call availability may be required for parish events, emergencies, weather-related duties, or facility needs.
