Senior Software Engineer I leads the full software development lifecycle, ensures technical excellence and adherence to best practices, mentors and coaches junior engineers, and collaborates cross-functionally to achieve organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Mentors junior Software Engineers and cross-functional team of colleagues, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation
  • Provides guidance and support to junior engineers, fostering professional growth and development within the team
  • Directs the design, development, testing, and deployment of software applications and systems
  • Oversees a variety of tasks, platforms, and technologies to expand new and existing software to meet changing requirements
  • Writes automated unit tests to ensure correctness and stability
  • Provides technical guidance to ensure adherence to best practices and coding standards
  • Monitors software performance and implements improvements to optimize functionality
  • Analyzes technical challenges and provides innovative solutions to enhance software quality and efficiency
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of software solutions
  • Collaborates and co-creates effectively with teams in product and the business to align technology initiatives with business objectives

Qualifications

Education Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and/or comparable experience; advanced degree preferred

Work Experience:

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience (or equivalent level based on role requirements) with a strong focus on Java-based application development.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining distributed, scalable, multi-tier applications.
  • Experience in application design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Experience working in cloud environments and modern software delivery practices is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex technical challenges and deliver scalable solutions.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code quality practices, and DevOps principles.
  • Experience with unit, integration, functional, and performance testing.
  • Knowledge of distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, NoSQL, and relational databases
  • Knowledge of the core tools used in the planning, analyzing, crafting, building, testing, configuring, and maintaining of assigned application(s)

 

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience leading small teams, mentoring engineers, or driving technical initiatives.
  • Experience conducting architecture reviews and influencing technical direction.
  • Basic Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of event streaming platforms such as Kafka is a plus
